"Beneath this stone reposed in hope of a joyful resurrection are the mortal remains of Susan Madison Porter, daughter of the late William B. and Ellen Wood of Petersburg, Va, & late consort of George C. Porter, born October 5 A.D. 1805, died August 25 A.D. 1833, Faithful in all the relations of life, piety was the crowning grace of her character & embellished her other virtues. Precious in the sight of the Lord in the _ _ [unreadable] Jesus died & rose again even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."
