Plen Nelms Dies at Early Hour Today
Plen Nelms passed away at 3:30 o’clock this morning at his home, 2412 DeWitt avenue. Death was due to a general breakdown and to infirmities of age. The funeral will be held at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Peers chapel, with Rev. S. B. Owings officiating. Burial will be in Dodge Grove cemetery. Mr. Nelms was born Oct. 19, 1864, near Walnut Hill, in Marion county, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nelms. On May 19, 1888, he married Miss Martha Ellen Merriman of Ramsey. Surviving are the widow and five children. The children are Mrs. William Lawson and Mrs. T. R. Shelly of Mattoon, Mrs. O. D. Cloe of Olney, Mrs. W. B. Winkler of Rardin and T. O. Nelms of Gays. J. F. Nelms of Indianapolis, Ind., is a brother and Kenneth Nelms and I. B. Nelms of Mattoon are nephews. There are 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
