He was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Saratoga, Texas, to Charlie and Ida Patterson Bass.
He was a Bay City resident since 1956, a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and a retired gauger for Sun Oil Co.
He is survived by: his wife, Violet Broom Bass of Bay City; his sons, James Ray Bass, Jr., Charles Ray Bass and wife Gail of Bay City, and Rex Allen Bass of Sinton; his brother, E. L. Bass of Jones Creek; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bass, Rex Bass, Clark Bergstrom, Gary Bass, Pete Green and Billy Pawlosky.
Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
