Emery Watts Conner, 86, of 2000 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at his residence.

Born on Jan. 25, 1925, in South Boston, he was the son of the late Holt Easley Conner and Daisy Belle Powell Conner. He was also predeceased by eight sisters and two brothers.

He was married to Katherine Marie Pool Conner who survives of the residence.

A life-long resident of South Boston, he worked first as a painter before working for J. P. Stevens Textiles for 28 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church for 37 years where he served as an usher, deacon, and a trustee before joining Grace Baptist Church where he was active member enjoying Sunday School and the Intercessory Prayer Group before his health prevented him from attending. He and his wife were also very active with their prayer ministry and bible study group.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by four children, E. Wayne Conner and his wife Cathy of Alton, Z. Grey Conner and his wife Diane of South Boston, Joyce C. Fuquay and her husband David of Danville, and G. Mitchell Conner and his wife Sandra of South Boston; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Haymore and her husband Ron, James Conner and his wife Angie, Ashley C. Branch and her husband Travis, Holley Conner, Stephanie C. Jackson and her husband Jonathan, Lee Fuquay and his wife Jennifer, Thomas Fuquay, Kristen Fuquay, and Matthew Conner; five great-grandchildren, Brooke Haymore, Blake Haymore, Ashton Conner, Kaitlyn Jackson, and Aiden Conner; and two step-great-grandchildren, Logan Gibson and Lainey Gibson.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Grace Baptist Church, 1058 Buckshoal Road, Virgilina, with the Rev. Travis Branch , Rev. Jack Stewart and Rev. Barbara Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church on Thursday, May 19, from 7-8:30 pm and at other times at the residence of his son Mitch and Sandra Conner, 2155 Ponderosa Road, South Boston.

The family would like to thank the Halifax Regional Hospice for their wonderful care and kindness during the last few weeks.
