Hansen, Catherine (1833 - 10 DEC 1923)

Catherine Hansen (nee Jess) died at Kiel, Wis., Dec. 10, 1923, of old age. She was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, in 1833. She was married to William Hansen in 1865, who preceded her in death 7 years ago. They came to the U. S. in 1883 and settled on a farm at Thorp, Clark County, Wis. in the town of Worden.

In 1917 she moved to Kiel and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Louis Backhaus.

She is survived by her three children, Mrs. Louis Backhaus of Kiel, Wis., George Hansen of Thorp, Wis., and Mrs. J. H. Suel of New Holstein, Wis., and five grandchildren of Thorp, Wis.

The funeral took place Dec. 15th, at two o'clock p.m. at the M. E. Church of Thorp, Wis. Interment was in the Worden Cemetery.

Death called Mrs. Wm. Hansen on Monday, at the home of her son in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Backhaus in the city. She was 90 years of age. Kathryn Jens was born in Germany, June 10, 1833. She was united in marriage to Wm. Hansen in 1856. Forty years ago the couple came to America, settling near Thorp, where they lived until about 8 years ago, when Mr. Hansen died. Mrs. Hansen then moved to Kiel with the Louis Backhaus family, where she has since been making her home. The remains will be taken to Thorp Thursday morning, and the funeral will be held there Friday. The following children survive her: Mrs. Louis Backhaus of this city, Mrs. J. H. Suel of New Holstein, and George Hansen of Thorp; also 5 grandchildren.
