Unmarried, Shuby bore three daughters in TN and moved to Jefferson Co. IL with her mother and daughters in 1837. The girls were Sarah Jane Twitty [Ballard], Elizabeth Mackey Twitty [Ridgeway] and Nancy Hamilton Twitty (blind).
On 18 Sep 1838 in Jefferson Co. IL, she became the second wife of John Darnell. They had 2 (or 3?) daughters. Eldest was Perida (or Parsida) [Perry] b1842, then Lucinda (or Angelina) [Hollaway] b1843. Finally there is Elizabeth [Lampley] who may be Shuby's or may belong to John's third wife, widow Mary Manees whom he married Oct. 2, 1847. Elizabeth's birth date varies in records (1846-48).
Some paper records give her name as "Shirly" and some as "Shaby." The famly record says Shuby, which may have been used instead of Sarah to avoid confusion with her mother.
Shuby's death date is uncertain, though it is likely before Oct. 1847, and even the cemetery is not certain. Her husband is buried here. Dare researcher Doris Provart Gower asserts (2005) she is buried in Jefferson Co. IL.
It is also possible she is buried in one the cemeteries removed from the area which became covered by Rend Lake. Those graves are now found in Kirk Cemetery and most graves are designated by symbols but not identified. Mason Cem. in Elk Prairie Township also has over 20 damaged, toppled or buried stones. Elk Prairie Twp. is where the original Dare/ Mackey family settled.
NOTE: This cemetery, So. Hickory Hill, also has many stones damaged or so worn or buried as to be unreadable.
