SOUTH BEND - Helen Beatrice Munger of South Bend, IN passed away at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 17, 1911 in Sedalia, MO to the late Frank and Florence (Pennington) Broadnax. On March 16, 1929 in St. Louise, MO, she married Alfred T. Munger who preceded her in death on October 6, 1979. Together they had five children, Harry "Sonny" Munger , Beverly (Phil) Crone of South Bend, IN, Glenda (Bob) Walcott of Grovertown, IN, Larry (Carol) Munger of Elkhart, IN and Terry (Susan) Munger of Lakeville, IN. They were blessed with ten grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son, Harry "Sonny" Munger .

Helen moved to South Bend in 1941 coming from St. Louis, MO. She worked at The Philadelphia Candy Co and retired from Robertson's Department Store in South Bend. After retirement, she and Truman enjoyed many wonderful years traveling and especially enjoyed spending their winters at Fort Myers Beach, FL. She was a beautiful loving mother and grandmother and took great pride in caring for her family. Helen enjoyed crocheting and was very gifted in making beautiful blankets for family and friends. Helen's caring heart is also known through the unconditional love she gave to her special four legged friends. She cared for and outlived three Keeshond dogs. She was a true dog lover! Although Helen will be terribly missed by all who knew her, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace and our memories of her will remain in our hearts forever. Helen's family extends sincere thanks to the staff at The Sanctuary at St. Paul's for their many acts of kindness during her stay.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Rev. Brian White will officiate. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Helen B . Munger may be offered to The Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct. South Bend, IN 46637 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be sent to www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
