David Hirschi, 88, retired farmer and resident of East Idaho for more than 70 years, died Monday night at his home in Idaho Falls.
He was born August 13, 1866 in Berne, Diemtigen County, Switzerland. At the age of 16 he came to America, settling in Montpelier where he worked in the railroad shop for several years. He married Magdalena Wuthrich, also of Switzerland. April 13, 1888, in Montpelier, and they later moved to Salem where they operated a farm until they retired several years ago and moved to Idaho Falls. In 1952 they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
Active in the LDS Church all his life, he filled two missions to the Swiss-German field. Since moving to Idaho Falls he and his wife have been engaged in Temple worl.
Two sons (John HEnry) and (Lorenzo Samuel) proceded him in death. Survivors include his widow, and 10 sons and daughters: David (Hedwig) Hirschi, Kilgore; Annie (James Henry) Harris, Rose Magdelena (Abraham Thomas) James, Martha Elizabeth (Lewis Edward) Schreier, all of Blackfoot; Mable Katherina (John Francis) Belnap, Robert Daniel (Lucille), Arnold (Rachel), Lavell (Donna), all of Salem; Mildred Edna (Vernon) Mortensen, Salem and Thelma Dora (John) Keller, Terreton; 54 grandchildren and 69 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2pm in the First LDS Chapel with Bishop William R. Hatch conducting, Friends may call at the Williams Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
