Born in Johnsburg, he was the son of Adelaide and William Althoff. On Nov 26, 1909, he married Eleanora Smith. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Eleanor Wister, Ethel Conway and Betty Phelan; son, James Althoff; three sisters, Elizabeth Tonyan, Katherine and Barbara Althoff. Seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death
