SAMUEL HOLTON "HOLMAN" BURDINE, 78, of Jessamine County, husband of R. Mildred (born McQuerry) Burdine, died Thursday, March 30, at his home after alengthy illness.

He was born in Jessamine County on Nov. 19, 1921, the son of the late Hobart and Smilie (born Reynolds) Burdine.

Besides his wife of 54 and 1/2 years, he is survived by a daughter, Linda (born Burdine) Travis; a son, Gary Holton Burdine; a son-in-law, David E. Travis; five grandchildren, David Randall "Randy" Travis, Laura Christine Travis, Kenneth Holton Burdine and his wife, Sarah, Mark Whitney Travis, Shei Elizabeth "Beth" Burdine, and one great-grandson, Jacob Holton Burdine, all of Jessamine County.

He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret (born Burdine) Jeter of Lexingtonand Marie (born Burdine) Vice of Ashland; mother-in-law Christine McQuerry; sisters-in-law, Vivian (born McQuerry) Sebastian and Mable S. Burdine, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robin C. Burdine.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, at Betts and West Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Delaney and the Rev. David Redish officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery.
