Lena Viola Austin Ross, 99, formerly of Silver Road, Oakboro, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 1, 2012, from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at West Oakboro Baptist Church. The service will begin at 4:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Rev. Steve Barbee will officiate and burial will follow in Oakboro Cemetery.
Born in Union County, NC on April 13, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Alexandra Austin and the late Ida Virginia Simpson Austin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Franklin Ross and a son, Glynn Austin, and a grandson who died at birth. Four sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Janice R. Efird of Oakboro, five grandchildren, Gregory L. Efird of Stowe, Pa., Terry R. Efird and wife, Mary of Mint Hill, Joey P. Efird of Indian Trail. Also a grandson whom she raised, Tommy E. Ross and wife, Tina of Oakboro, and a granddaughter, Lynn Pressley of Rock Hill, SC, 10 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren.
She was retired from Stanly Knitting Mills and was a member of West Oakboro Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted.
