GRIFFEY, Joseph Buford, 85, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ellen Griffey, and his beloved son, Tom Griffey. He is survived by his four remaining children and their spouses, Gwen Henderson (Rick), Linda Mitchell (John), Bob Griffey (Gail) and Randy Griffey (Beth). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; five stepgrandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was born in Willisburg, Ky., and lived there until moving to Tampa in 1952. He served in the 3rd Battalion of the 351st Infantry of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an automobile mechanic and retired from GTE/Verizon in 1986, as manager of the Fleet Maintenance Department for Central Florida. He was a member of Northgate Baptist Church, where he was a faithful servant until his health began to decline. A visitation will take place 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, and a funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, both at Blount & Curry Carrollwood Chapel. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery.
