Robert “Royal” Arden Lloyd Jr., 35, of Statesville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
He was born Oct. 24, 1971 in San Diego County, Calif. to Karen Lloyd Royal of Mooresville and the late Nelson Royal. Robert was a graduate of Mooresville High School, Class of 1989, and attended Grace Covenant Church, Statesville. He was a professional cowboy, winning a World Championship as a team roper in 1999, and was an all around champion cowboy winning multiple times. The title he was most proud of was “dad.”
Survivors include his wife, Jonna Shoemaker Lloyd; sons, Robert Arden Lloyd III (Trey), Tanner Blake Lloyd and Ty Weston Lloyd, all of the home; brothers, David Royal and wife, Alison, and Devin Royal; and nephew Chase, all of Mooresville; sister, Shannon McCrary and husband, Greg, of Hendersonville, and nieces and nephews, Terran and Tristan.
Memorials may be made to the Lloyd Benevolence Fund, c/o Grace Covenant Church of Statesville, P.O. Box 328 Statesville, NC 28687. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Grace Covenant Church, Cornelius. Interment will follow at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville. Raymer Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving theLloyd family.
