She was born in Towanda, IL, a daughter of the late Edgar P. and Maida (Kirkham) Saffer.
A 1933 graduate of Center High School, Gail was employed at Ball Stores in MUncie, Kmart in Muncie, and was employed at the Hagerstown High School for several years. She attended the Blountsville Christian Church and also Memorial Wesleyan Church in New Castle.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Bainter of New Castle, and Kevan (wife-Marcia) Bainter of Greenfield; three daughters-in-law, Sharon Holly, Mary Bainter and Joan Bainter, all of Muncie; a stepdaughter, Phyllis Thornhill of New Castle; a stepson, Larry Watts of Muncie; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild; several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Bainter, Charles Thornburg, and Cecil Watts; two sons, Thomas and Marris Bainter; a granddaughter, Sally Bainter; two brothers, and a sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hiinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, with the Reverend Thomas Current officiating. Burial will follow in Blountsville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
