"Boone Grove Senior Is Killed"

A 17-year-old Boone Grove High School senior was killed and a classmate and two Hebron women were seriously injured at 7:45 a.m. today in a two-car collision at the intersection of Ind. 2 and Porter Cross roads, south of Valparaiso.
Richard (Rick) Klimek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klimek, RFD 6, an outstanding student and athlete at Boone Grove, died enroute to Porter Memorial hospital.
7th In Class
Klimek had been a member of the student council at the Boone Grove High school for four years and had been accepted as a student at Indiana University this fall. He was ranked 7th in his class.
He entered the Boone Grove school in 1953 when he was in the third grade. He was president of his senior class.
Klimek, although rather small of stature, was an outstanding athlete.
Rick lettered in track, basketball and cross country. In the Hebron Relays last Wednesday, he set a school record in the half-mile run.
He was the leading scorer in basketball during the past season and was named to the all-conference team.
Klimek's body was taken to the Bartholomew Funeral home, where services are pending.

Services for Richard (Rick) Klimek, 17, Boone Grove High school senior who was killed early Monday morning in a traffic accident in which three other persons were injured, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday in Bartholomew Funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Born in Chicago Nov. 24, 1945, Richard was the son of Robert and Emma (Miller) Klimek, RFD 2, Valparaiso.
Surviving besides his parents are two brothers, Robert Jr., a captain in the U.S. Air Force and a senior at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and Thomas, at home.
