He was a member of Faith Assembly Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Audrey Alvis; parents, Robert B. and Evelyn Alvis; three brothers, Fred, Carl and Bert Alvis; and three sisters, Bonnie Willis, Alana Derden and Grace Day.
He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Rod (Debbie) Woods, Sarasota, FL, Suzie Miller, Rogersville, and Mrs. James Gary (Jen) Bare of Rogersville, with whom he made his home; five grandchildren, Amy Powell and husband, Mike, David Shields, Kenny Bare, Joseph Smith and Keeley Smith; three great-grandchildren, Blayne, Conner and Jennah Powell; a foster sister, Mary Magdalene Trent; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Revs. Billy Ray Courtney and Jerry Lee officiating. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Highland Cemetery.
