Norwood Foy May 07, 2011

Prayer Service for Norwood Foy, 91, will be held Thursday, May 10, 2011 at Greer's Mortuary Chapel, interment to follow at Desert View Cemetery.

Mr. Foy was born in Versailles, MO on April 20, 1920 to Payton & Dora Foy. As a young boy he grew up in Tebbetts, MO and farmed along side his father until 1939 when the depression hit. He then joined the Civil Conservation Corps. working in Louisiana to help support his parents. He enlisted in the US Army in October of 1942. After basic training he then was assigned to the 35th Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific Campaign where he fought in Luzon, Guadalcanal, American occupation in Nagoya Japan and the Northern Solomon Islands where he earned 3 bronze stars & good conduct medal. He was honorably discharged on discharged on December 10, 1945.

In 1947 he came to Winslow to visit his brother Clancy Foy, then hired out on the Santa Fe Railroad for the signal department. During that time he met his future wife Teresa Molina in Holbrook, AZ and settled down in Winslow. Together they raised 10 children. After working for Santa Fe he worked for the US Forest Service, Navajo County and then hired out for the City of Winslow in 1964 as an equipment operator, retiring in 1983.

Norwood's passion was baseball and was always there to watch his son's, grandson's and great grands kids, cheering them on. He was an avid Diamondbacks fan and never missed a game on television In 2007 he got to see his D'Backs play at Bank One Ballpark. He also enjoyed camping with is family.

He is survived by his sons Joseph of Phoenix, AZ, Kennith (Susan) of Mechanicsville, MD; daughters, Dolly (Jim) Doubek of Mesa, Cheryl (Rolllie) Coffey of North Bend, OR., Rosmary Foy of Winslow, Becky Harris of Potlach, ID, Beverly Wallin (Mike) of Albion, WA and Rhonda Foy of Phoenix, AZ; two nieces, 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Teresa; sons, Norwood P. Foy, Jr., Russell R. Owens, granddaughter Suzanne Coffey, grandsons, Christopher Sean Foy, Joseph Richard Coffey and his wife Lisa Coffey and his sidekick Pitchy, his 4 legged grandson.
