Elizabeth "Bette" Reitsma, 79, of Sanborn died Friday, July 113, 2001, at Prairie View Nursing Home.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn with the Rev. Dale Fopma officiating. Burial was at 9:45 a.m. in Roseland Cemetery under the direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Reitsma was born Nov. 28,1921, on a farm near Sanborn, the daughter of Jake and Mary (Snip) Kuipers. She lived her youth on that farm and received her education at a country school. She married Ellis H. Reitsma on Sept. 18, 1941, in Sanborn. They farmed west of Sanborn. She had worked as a cook at Prairie View Nursing Home and also operated an upholstery business out of her home for 15 years. Mr. Reitsma died Dec. 31, 1993. She entered Prairie View Nursing Home on July 17, 2000.

She was a member of Sanborn Christian Reformed Church and had been active in the Christian School Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, LuEtta and Marv Heemskerk of Boyden, Iowa, Evie and Orlan Gulker and Kathy and Kent Moeller, all of Sioux Center, Iowa; five sons and their wives, Eugene and Donna of Bellflower, Calif,, Larry and Alvina and Lee and Starla, all of Sanborn, Kelly and Jan of Sioux Center, and Kenneth and Leilla of Sanborn; a son-in-law and his wife, Larry and Brenda Van Dyke of Sioux Center; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Kuipers of Bellflower, and Jerry Kuipers of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Wilma Steilinga of Sioux Falls; and a brother-in-law, Don Adema of Artesia, Calif.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ellen Van Dyke; a great-grandson, Craig Allen; a brother, Ivan Kuipers; and a sister, Marjorie Adema.
