Larkin J. Chapman was born in Three Forks, Wilkes County North Carolina in 1824 he was the eighth son of William W. Chapman and Ruth W. Barnes. Larkin enlisted along with his two brothers in Company G, 37th North Carolina Infantry on December 28, 1861. Larkin fought at Havover Court House, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Cedar Mountain, Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, and at Chancellorsville he was captured on May 3, 1863. Larkin was taken POW and taken to New Port News, Virginia where he died on May 8, 1865. Larkin is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Newport News, Virginia.

Born in Wilkes County and resided in Alexander County where he was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Guilford County at age 38, December 28, 1861. Captured at or near Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 3, 1863. Sent to Washington, D.C. Paroled and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received on May 13, 1863, for exchange. Returned to duty prior to September 1, 1863. Captured in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, April 3, 1865. Died at Newport News on May 8, 1865, of disease

Larkin was buried in a mound with over a hundred Confederate Soldiers.
