The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Morris and the Rev. David Simpson officiating. Interment will be at Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Benfield was born March 27, 1909, in Iredell County, the daughter of the late Roman Webster Norris and the late Etta Lorena Raymer Norris. A lifetime resident of the area, she was a homemaker, and in earlier years had worked for Cannon Mills Company Plant 1. She was a member of Westside Freewill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Benfield was preceded in death by her husband, Henry William Benfield, who died in 1983. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Herbert Eugene Benfield and Bobby Lee Benfield.
Survivors include a son, Gary G. Benfield and wife, Dell Raye, of Kannapolis; daughters, Shirley M. Wright and husband, Curtis, of Gainsville, Fla.; Jo Ann Benfield of Kannapolis, and Linda S. Jacobs and husband, Lungher, of Kannapolis; brother, Morrison Norris of Salisbury; daughters-in-law, Melinda Benfield and Margie Caldwell, both of Mooresville;15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family headquarters will be at the home of her son, Gary G. Benfield, 2400 Johnson St., Kannapolis. Memorials may be made to Westside Freewill Baptist Church, 2400 Johnson St., Kannapolis, NC 28081.
