NT Business Woman Dies at Age of 59
Mrs. Wilhelmina Karkau, 59, who died Saturday night at her home, 94 Kell
street, was proprietress of the Schenck Drygoods Store at 281 Schenck
street. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, she was a member of
Friedens church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Henry Kumm, Jr., of Washington, D.C.;
two sons, Lavern and Milford, of North Tonawanda; a granddaughter, Judith
Karkau; five sisters, Mrs. Arthur G. Vielhauer of Tonawanda, Mrs. Albert
Roeske, Mrs. William Proefrock, Mrs. Herbert Leverentz and Mrs. Adolf
Gentzmer of North Tonawanda, and four brothers, George, Arthur and William
Oswald, Jr., of North Tonawanda, and Norman of Tonawanda.
Rites will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. from the late residence. The Rev.
Theodore Mayer will officiate and interment will be in Friedens cemetery.
