Henry was a son of Prettyman Conwell and Charlotte Waller. He married Elizabeth Furbay on August 29, 1835. (She died in 1839.) He was a teacher in Rush twp. and had two daughters - Charlotte Jane (Shipton) and Cynthia Ann (Barge) whom he gave to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law to raise. In 1880, he was living with his nephew, Prettyman Jones and family in Rush. He lived in Rush twp. until 1885 when he moved to Uhrichsville to live with his daughter, Charlotte Conwell Shipton, and where he died.
