THE STAR AND SENTINEL July 11, 1931

Amos Daniel Longenecker, 59, of Mummasburg, committed suicide by hanging himself in a woods near his home, Tuesday. Members of the family attributed the act to ill health which caused Longenecker to be despondent for several months.
He left home about 9:30, Tuesday morning, without saying where he was going or what he was going to do.
When he filed to return for dinner, a search was instituted, and a son, Emmert C Longenecker, who lives at home, discovered his father's body hanging from the limb of a tree. The gruesome discovery was made about 3:00, Tuesday afternoon.
……….He was a farmer and lumberman. Surviving are a widow, Mrs. Elmira Hammers Longenecker; one daughter, Mrs. Roy M Cluck, Gettysburg; two sons, Harry A Longenecker, Hanover RD, and
Emmert C Longenecker, at home; one sister, Miss Annie E Longenecker, Carlisle, and one brother, the Rev. A R Longenecker, Littlestown.
Funeral services at the home Friday morning at 10:00, the Rev WG Group, East Berlin, officiating, assisted by Elder BF Lightner, Gettysburg. Interment in the Mennonite cemetery, Mummasburg.
