Hazel Fern Hornaday age 91 of Centerville, Iowa died Friday evening, May 13, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.

She was born September 14, 1919 in Centerville the daughter of Noah and Lula Cloud Hayes. Hazel married Everette Hornaday February 15, 1947 in Centerville. They were married at 4 pm and left the wedding to go to the farm where Everette needed to milk his cows and Hazel fried him a hamburger-that was their honeymoon. They farmed near Seymour first and later near Centerville. She was a homemaker and a caregiver and worked for Dr. Larsen as a assistant. Hazel also worked for JC Penney. She was a member of Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In her free time, Hazel enjoyed gardening, including "pulling weeds"until she had to stop, and she loved garage sales.

Hazel is survived by, 5 sons Gene Hornaday and his wife Jeanette of Pollock, MO, David Hornaday and his wife Carol of rural Mystic, Paul Hornaday and his wife Debbie of Bloomfield, Mark Hornaday and his wife(Karen)of Knoxville, Charlie Hornaday and his wife Chanda of Oologah, OK; 13 grandchildren Larry(Kristi)Hornaday of Unionville, MO, Matt(Whitney)Hornaday of Jerome, Iowa, SGT Broc(Kristen)Hornaday of Ft. Benning, GA, Jake Hornaday of Oologah, OK, Laurie(Mike)Grassley of Cameron, MO, Tara(Tom)Micetich of Centerville, Kim(Kevin)Orman of Ottumwa, Iowa, Missy Johnson of Centerville, Tyann(Jonathan)Scace of Oologah, OK, Amanda(Brian)Grafft of Tiffin, Iowa and Tashina Hornaday of Knoxville; 18 great grand children, 1 great great grandchild, and a sister Mildred.

She was preceded in death by her husband Everette; her parents; by a grandson Jared Hornaday; a sister Doris; and a brother David.

Funeral services will be held 10 am Monday May 16, 2011 at Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Pastors Brian Hargrave and Robert Pick officiating. Music will be provided by David Powell and Milton Albertson. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at the Lange Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hanes Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church.
