Edwin Selmer Balstad, 86, of Beltrami, died Saturday, June 12, 1993 at the United Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

He was born May 11, 1907 to Ole and Ingeborg (Uthas) Balstad in rural Fertile. He attended country school and was confirmed in Norwegian at the Varnes Lutheran Church of Liberty Township. After his schooling, he helped around the family farm and drove truck.

He married Edith Gast on December 22, 1934 at the Methodist Parsonage in Crookston. The farmed east of Beltrami, retiring in 1982.

He is survived by his wife, Edith of Beltrami; three daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Roger) Anderson of Bloomington, Maxine (Mrs. Kermit) Wabschall of Minneapolis, and Gladys (Mrs. Jim) Rongen of Crookston; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Marie Gast of Beltrami, Ruth (Mrs. Pete) Allen of Crookston and Florence Gunderson of Marysville, Washington.

He was precceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Olaf, Ingvald, Manford, Arnold, and infant brothers, Roy and Oliver; a sister Carola Mosher.
