James Timothy Burgess Sr., 65, of Meigs died Friday, May 13, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Zion Grove Assembly of God with the Rev. Kenneth Burgess officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Grove Cemetery. Nephews of Mr. Burgess will serve as casketbearers.
Born June 10, 1945, in Colquitt County, Mr. Burgess was the son of the late Harold Burgess and Beatrice Vinson Burgess. He was self employed in construction and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Boyd Burgess of Meigs; two sons, James Timothy Burgess Jr. and fiancee Sherry Sweat of Meigs and Derek Burgess and wife Brandi of Kathleen; a daughter, Michelle Burgess of Helen; two stepsons, Steve Redmond and Lynn Redmond and wife Selena, all of Moultrie; the mother of his children, Faye Bryant of Moultrie; a brother, Darrell Burgess and wife Gayle of Meigs; two sisters, Linda Kennedy and husband Larry of Meigs and Myrtle Fincher of Leesburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
