Mr.Griggs was born Dec. 9, 1916 in Houston County, Texas to Isaac Benjamin and Maude Ellen (Smith) Griggs and died January 7, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Griggs had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He graduated from Hudson High School and spent a short time with the Civilian Conservation Corp. He served five years in the Army Air Corp during WW II. During that he spend 27 months in India and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After he returned from India, he married Faye Gandy and they celebrated 60 years of marriage on Dec. 31, 2004. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin and taught school one year at Central ISD. He ran for the office District Clerk of Angelina County in 1952 and kept the office until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Griggs retired to pursue his favorite pasttime of playing dominoes, gardening, hunting, fishing and playing with his great-grandchildren. He was of the Baptist faith.
