He was born in Albion township in 1887 and married to Lottie Johnson in 1908 at the East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, of which be was a member. He was a retired employee of the Highway Trailer Co. in Edgerton.
Mr. Smithback is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Clyde Newcomb, Wittenberg, Wis.; Mrs. Lee Walcott, Edgerton, and Mrs. Elmer Vethe Rockdale, and a sister, Mrs. Julius Simonsen, Cambridge. He had 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2. p.m. Monday in the First East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, Rev. M. 0. Herder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Ruben funeral home here after 3 p.m. Sunday and until noon Monday.
