Gwen attended grade school in Hardy and graduated from Hardy High School, Hardy, Nebraska. She was baptized on August 9, 1925 by Rev. John Thomas at the Methodist Church in Hardy, Nebraska and confirmed on August 30, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hardy by Dr. Paul W. Dieckman.
She was united in marriage to Harvey Petersen on October 8, 1939 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska and to this union was born three children, Karen, Merideth and Roger. Harvey and Gwen lived and farmed in the Hardy area until they moved into Superior, Nebraska in 1980. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hardy, Nebraska. The whole family had a very strong faith and had a love for music, sharing and gathering around the piano especially at Christmas time. Together Harvey and Gwen would travel all over the area to go dancing.
Gwen entered the Superior Good Samaritan Society of October 18, 2006 and resided there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey of February 16, 2007; one sister Vivian Camacho; brother-in-law, Robert Camacho, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Herbert & wife Elna (Petersen) Mesloh, brother-in-law Alvin Petersen and son-in-law John Jensen.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Hawley and husband Marlin Mack of Concordia, Kansas and Merideth Jensen of Clay Center, Nebraska and one son, Roger Petersen and wife Shirley of Fairbury, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Diana Gates, Sarah Zimmerman, Kristie Graff, Scott Petersen, Becky Eberly and Stacy Nelson; eleven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law & sister-in-law Dean & Viola (Petersen) McGowan of Superior, Nebraska and sister-in-law Virginia (McGowan) Petersen of Republic, Kansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
