Services are pending at Denton Funeral Home for Roy "Shorty" Kirkes, 73, 2408 Avenue B, who died Tuesday in Roswell's St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Arkansas, he married Dorothy Miner in Dumas, Ark., in 1936. They came to Carlsbad in 1949 and lived here until they moved to Visalia, Calif., in 1955. They lived there and worked on a farm until Kirkes retired in 1980. They returned to Carlsbad in March 1980.
He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ.
Survivors, all of Carlsbad, include: his wife, Dorothy Kirkes; five brothers, Forrest, E.A. Jessie D., Bill and Charles Kirkes; and four sisters, Verna Green, Janice Underwood, Mary Nell Bradley and Bonnie Williams.
KIRKES
Services for Roy "Shorty" Kirkes, 73, 2408 Avenue B, are scheduled to be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Denton Funeral Home Chapel. Dan Wright of the Southside Church of Christ will officiate. Burial is to follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Kirkes died in a Roswell hospital on Tuesday.
Pallbearers are to be Rex Kirkes, Gary Kirkes, Randy Kirkes, Kirk Kirkes, Glen Kirkes and Bob Underwood.
