Charles Christopher Crittenden is the son of Dr. Henry Holt Wilson Crittenden and Bettie Temple Phillips Crittenden. He taught at Wake Forest College and married Ethel Taylor, the daughter of Dr. Charles E. Taylor, in June 1901. She was the libriarian at Wake Forest. His son, Charles Christopher Crittenden, was North Carolina State Historian.
