Fond du Lac (WI) Reporter. Tues. Jan. 13, 1998, p. 4B:3. Alfreda M. Abler, 80, of Mt. Calvary, died Mon. Jan. 12, 1998, at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary, after a lingering illness. She was born on April 26, 1917, in St. Cloud, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine Goeser Michels. On Aug. 19, 1941, she married Leander Abler at St. Claudius Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Mrs. Abler attended St. Cloud Catholic Grade School. Following her marriage, she and her husband farmed the Abler homestead in rural Mt. Calvary for 39 years before retiring and moving to the Village of Mt. Calvary. She was employed at Villa Loretto for 18 years. Mrs. Abler and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mt. Calvary and its Christian Mothers Society, the Villa Loretto Nursing Home Auxiliary, and was a volunteer at the nursing home for 30 years. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Kay Seibel and her husband Bill, and Sandra Mertens and her husband Ken, all of Mt. Calvary, Susan Stephany and her husband Joe of Fond du Lac, and Mary Joan Winkler and her husband Mark of St. Joe; one son, Michael and his wife Joan of Mt. Calvary; 16 grandchildren, Loree, Jody, Gina, Tracy, Jeff, jamie, Gregg, Jennifer, Jill, Tim, jason, Julie, Matt, Nick, Katelynn and Elizabeth; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Alex Michels and his wife Florence of St. Cloud; two sisters, Marie Stephany and her husband Ervin of Fond du Lac, and a twin sister, Angelita Hochrein and her husband Orlando of St. Cloud; six sisters-in-law, Leska Michels, Hilda Shepro, Beatrice Abler, Dolores Kelroy, Angelita Abler and Joan Christ; one brother-in-law, Harold Huberty; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were five brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Huss Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mt. Calvary. The Rev. Peter Kutch and the Rev. Bernard Sippel, a nephew, will officiate. Entombment will be at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum. Visitation from 3 p.m. to the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial in her name has been established for Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. A special thank you to the caring staff at Villa Loretto for their thoughtfulness and special care.
