Arthur Oscar Biehl Jr., 86, passed at Puget Sound Healthcare Center in Olympia, WA on Friday, August 6, 2010. He was born in Lincoln, NE on April 4, 1924 to Arthur O. and Elizabeth C. (Lunsford) Biehl Sr. Arthur graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in 1942 and attended Eastern Washington College of Education and Northwestern University in Illinois earning a Master's Degree in music. He served in the US Navy Sea-Bees and on August 9, 1947 he married Mary Abigail Robinson in Edmonds, WA. Mr. Biehl taught in Spokane at Central Valley High School as an assistant band director. He also worked part time as an instructor of woodwinds. Arthur earned his Master's Degree at Northwestern University and then went on to teach at Eastern Washington University until his retirement in 1979, Professor Emeritus. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, VFW and a former member of the Cheney Grange. He was a member of the Spokane Symphony for 25 years and played with the Olympia Symphony for five years also. Arthur enjoyed repairing woodwind instruments, carpentry, fishing, hiking and reading Louis L'Amour novels. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail in 2008; brothers, Ivan and Marvin; and sister, Doris Dronen. Arthur is survived by his daughter, two sons, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
