Mabel was born on January 21, 1901 north of Wellman, Iowa a daughter of Alfred Harvey and Lida Idell (Wilson) Freel. She attended Surprise Valley country school, Wellman High School and graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Ira E. Huber on September 15, 1920 in Washington. She lived in the Wellman community all of her life, farming with her husband for many years. They moved into Wellman in the early 1970's. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years at Parkview Manor.

Mabel died at Parkview Manor in Wellman on Monday, July 24, 2006 at the age of 105 years. Mabel is survived by a son Richard Huber of Wellman; a daughter Helen (Eldon) Shetler of Birkenfeld, Oregon; 7 grandchildren: Carol (Don) Flater, Larry (Tanna) Huber, Robert (Kathy) Huber, Loren (Linda) Huber, Lea Ann (Nicholas) Berg, Vicki (Steve) Hanson, Paul (Julie) Ramsey; 17 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Gladys Freel of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ira in August 1975; 3 brothers - Richard Freel, Clifford Freel, Arden Freel, a sister - Thelda Birkey; a daughter-in-law Mildred Huber; and a son-in-law Charles E. Ramsey.

A memorial fund has been established for the Asbury United Methodist Church
