Albert Joseph Assell
CA United States ALBERT ASSELL A graveside service will be held for Albert Joseph Assell, 91, of Chico, on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. Albert passed away on Friday, June 14th at Windsor Chico Care Center. He was born April 7, 1917 in Aurora, Ill. to Bernard and Marie Assell. He was the eldest son of nine children. Albert left school in the ninth grade to find work to help support the family
during the depression. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. In 1946, he married Gloria Serra at St. John's Catholic Church in Chico. Albert worked as a finish carpenter for several contractors in Chico before going to work as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years. He continued to work as a carpenter for the rest of his life. His hobbies included fishing, playing softball, gardening, bowling, and he
was an avid Cubs fan. Albert is survived by his daughters, Mary (Will) Nichols of Chico and Sally Bates of Lakehead; brothers, Charles of Florida and Ed of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Angela, Michael, Scott, and Michelle; and two great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Kaitlyn. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Windsor Chico Care Center for the loving care that Albert received. Donations may be made in
his memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Our Divine Savior Catholic Church, where Albert was a member, in care of the Brusie Funeral Home.

Gravesite Details
The gravestone for Gloria is on an outside monument wall among other gravemakers. Albert is above Gloria's but there is not a name. So that is why I put the same picture on both of them
