"...Craig, James – (6th Ten) Born in Ireland in 1821 to David and Elizabeth Craig. Known as the "Bugler of the Pioneers," he had the responsibility to awaken the camp each morning. After arriving in the Salt Lake Valley, he settled in the Millcreek area where he was appointed to a committee to eradicate poisonous reptiles and predatory animals. He was called on a mission to Great Britain where he served as president of the Preston Conference, and later labored in Ireland. He returned from his mission in 1858. In 1861, he was called to help colonize southern Utah. He settled in Santa Clara, Washington Co., Utah, where he was successful in raising cotton. He died there March 2, 1868, at about age 47..."
