"Washington D.C. - May 17- Henry M. Butler former solicitor of the navy, died late last night after an illness of more than two months. His body will be sent home today to his home in Columbus Ohio for burial. Mr. Butler was 56 years old and unmarried.

Word was received by Muscatine relatives, today apprising them of the death of Henry Maynard Butler, 56 years old, a native born resident of this city. The deceased had been ill for about two months, Dropsy was the cause of his demise.

Mr. Butler was a graduate of the Muscatine High school. Later he received his degree from Yale university. He was a prominent attorney of Washington.

Jacob Butler, father of the decedent, was one of Muscatine's pioneer residents. and was once prominently identified with local affairs."

HENRY MAYNARD BUTLER, son of Jacob and Esther (Maynard) Butler, was born April 28, 1854, at Muscatine, la. He was fitted for college at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass.

After graduation [Yale College, Class of 1876] he studied law a short time in Chicago with David Crocker, Esq, and then in Columbus, Ohio, with Henry C Noble (B A Miami 1845). In 1878 he was admitted to the Ohio bar and was for a time associated in practice with Mr Noble. He continued in the practice of his profession in Columbus until his appointment, February 1, 1910, as solicitor in the Navy Department. About the end of 1911 he was transferred to the Bureau of Corporations, Department of Commerce and Labor, as a special attorney. While in college he was a member of the Glee
Club and was afterward active in musical circles.

Mr Butler died after an illness of two months from a complication of troubles at the Washington Sanitarium, at Takoma Park, near Washington, D C, May 16, 1913. He was 59 years of age, and unmarried. The burial was in Columbus. Two sisters, residing in California, survive him.
