Funeral services for Paul Alfred Fine will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012. at the First Christian Church of Davis with Pastor Don Waters officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery at Sulphur.
Paul was born on Oct. 10, 1921, in Nicut, Okla., to the late Hubert and Edith (Drewry) Fine. He died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, in Ardmore, at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 10 days. Paul and Ruby McMurtry were married on Jan. 22, 1946, in Ft. Smith, Ark. From this marriage, came three children, Paul Jr., Russell and Patti. Ruby preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 1981. On July 14, 1982, Paul married Betty (Cartwright) Mayes in Shawnee.
Paul grew up in Sallisaw, where he graduated from high school. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific as a pharmacy mate. After being honorably discharged, Paul served an additional 19 years in the Navy and Army Reserves. Early in his working career, Paul worked as a roustabout in the oilfield industry. After retiring from the Standard Oil Co. with 20 years of service, Paul and Ruby owned and operated The Trading Center clothing store in Sulphur. After 20 years in the clothing store business, he and Betty retired and enjoyed traveling and playing golf. Paul also enjoyed playing pool at the Sulphur Senior Center and bowling, a sport that his age never slowed him from.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughter, Patti Martin, and husband, Van, of Mustang; sons, Paul Fine Jr., and wife, Sandra, of Moore and Russell Fine and wife, Sharon, of Davis; four grandchildren, Michelle Pasierb and husband, Frank, of Moore, Jesse Fine and wife, Kamatha, Matt Fine and wife, Lori, both of Nashville, and Tara Gleaves and husband, Todd, of Edmond; five great-grandchildren, Joey and Sam Pasierb and Kate, Elliott and Foster Fine; as well as Betty's children, Pamela Bergdall, Janet Murphy, Ray Murphy and Jerry Murphy.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Boyce and Bill Fine.
Services are entrusted to Hale's Funeral Home of Davis.
