PARIS — Funeral services were held this afternoon at Agnew Funeral Home for William Jasper Bates, 86, who died Friday morning at a clinic in Batesville, Ark. The Rev. James Culpepper, pastor of United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Bates was born in Missouri Aug. 8, 1885, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam [sic] Bates. He had lived in Paris for some time but for the last several months had been living with a son in Melbourne, Ark, His wife died more than a year ago.
He leaves four sons, John of Golden Dale, Wash., Autrey of Grand Coulee, Ore., Oscar of Melbourne and William J. Bates Jr., of Riverhood, Wash.; and a daughter, Mrs. Opal Curtis of Kansas City.
