Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Wensel Funeral Home for Amos O Conkin, 70, who died on Thursday evening at Mercy hospital where he had been a patient for a week. Mr Conkin had been in declining health for the past four years.

The Rev M J Haerther, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiated and burial was in Hillside cemetery.

Mr Conkin was born October 12, 1889 in Fall Branch, Tennessee, the son of Thomas and Sarah Mullinex Conkin. He was reared and educated in Fall Branch.

He was united in marriage to Mary Eckhardt on December 21, 1916 in State Center. They made their home on a farm near Clemons except for eight years spent in Minnesota. In 1944 they moved into State Center.

He is survived by his widow, four sons, Rufus, Eugene and Duane of State Center and Floyd of Anaheim, California; and two daughters, Mrs Alvin Edwards of State Center and Mrs Charles Barnard Jr of Marshalltown. Also surviving are two brothers, Clarence of Atlanta, Georgia and Earl of Hollandale, Minnesota; and one sister, Mrs August Metge, Conrad; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
