Barbara married Joseph Goodman on April 4, 1946 at St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church in State College, Pennsylvania. Joe was the son of Joseph and Ada Victoria (Honeycutt) Goodman and grew up in Nanticoke, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. They were divorced in the early 1970s.

Barbara Jane (Lang) Goodman was the second (and middle) daughter of Chauncey Phillip and Catherine Elizabeth (Schrock) Lang. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 3, 1920. Around age 10 the family moved to State College, PA when Chauncey took a job with Penn State's 4H Program. She graduated from State College High School and attended a two-year secretarial program at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA as her younger sister Phyllis (Lang) Moffitt recalls.
Barbara Jane (Lang) Goodman served honorably in WWII as a member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC). Over 150,000 women served in the Women's Army Corps during the war. WACs were the first women other than nurses to serve within the ranks of the United States Army. According to her sister Phyllis, Barbara joined because she had no brothers and thought her service would make her father proud. She was stationed in Texas. At the end of the war Barbara married Joseph Goodman at St. Paul's United Methodist Episcopal Church in State College, PA. Phyllis recalls that the family put the wedding together in one week. Despite the short notice their grandmother Bertha (Eicher) Schrock came from Ohio to attend. Barbara and Joe had one daughter Carol Ann Goodman.
They lived primarily in the Washington/Baltimore area in Maryland (usually around Landover). Joe was employed for a time as a delivery truck driver. They always attended a Baptist church. Carol married Elwood "Woody" Schaumberg, the son of their minister at the time. In the early 1970s Joe and Barbara had a bitter divorce. Subsequently Barbara hated any mention of Joe.
The divorce left Barbara without any financial resources. She moved back to State College, PA where she grew up. She became a shoe salesperson at a downtown shoe store and lived in the Glennland Building located on the corner of E. Beaver Avenue and Pugh Street. The Art Deco Glennland Building was a familiar State College landmark as it was the tallest (5 stories with the first elevator in town) and largest building (40 apartments) in town until the late 1970s.
When she retired from the shoe store, Barbara moved to Florida and lived with her mother Catherine (Schrock) Lang and older sister Catherine "Kay" Lang for a short time. She decided to move closer to her daughter and her grandsons, Theodore ("Teddy") and Frank Schaumberg who lived in Baltimore/Essex County, Maryland. Thereafter until she moved into senior housing she always lived in an apartment in the same apartment complex as her daughter and son-in-law. She delighted in her grandsons and great grandsons. Eventually in the last few years of her life she moved in with Carol and Woody before her dementia necessitated her placement in a nursing home where she died at age 90 on October 27, 2010. She is buried at Veteran's Cemetery, Garrison Forest, MD.
Barbara was a lifelong Penn State football fan. In their later years all the sisters would call each other after a Penn State football game to share the joy of a win or the pain of defeat. Barbara for many years collected owls and her apartment was filled with them. She enjoyed making things out of plastic canvas and everyone in her family were always receiving new Christmas ornaments, tissue box covers, coasters, holiday decorations, etc. from her. She also liked doing puzzles. In her younger days she enjoyed bowling. Until her hearing deteriorated she enjoyed listening to country and gospel music. She was particularly fond of the singer Tennessee Ernie Ford.
