GALENA - Mrs Anna Bardell, 78, 504 N High Street, widow of a JoDaviess county sheriff accidentally killed in line of duty, died Wednesday night in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, hospital.
Mrs Bardell who was born in Germany, was the widow of Sheriff John Bartell, who was shot accidentally in 1916 while leading a posse in search of a fugitive.
A son, Walter, was observing his 23rd birthday anniversary Feb 22, 1937, when he became one of three persons drowned in one of Galena's worst flood.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs Ted Reinhardt, Montello, Wisconsin; Mrs John Rupert, Holy Cross, Iowa; Mrs Willis Deininger, Galena; Mrs mabel Tighe, Rockford, Illinois; and mrs Wesley Diddens, Cedarville, Illinois; Three sons, Roy, Galena; John, Haytsville, Maryland; and Wayne, Aurora, illinois; two sisters, including Mra Minnis Wetemeier, Galena; a brother, Louis Holland, Galena and 27 grandchildren.
