Funeral Services for Annie Mae Leona Harper, age 89, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Tony King officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Harper passed away Sunday morning at a local nursing home.
Leona was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Henderson County, Texas, to the late John May and Carrie Gandy. She married Jahue Jackson Parsons who preceded her in death in 1960, and later married Harold Harper who also preceded her in death in 1984. She was a member of the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and the Brownwood Quilters Guild.
Leona is survived by three daughters, Edna May Banks and husband Charles, Frances "Fran" Hurst, and Katherine Lanelle; five sons, Jackie Wayne Parsons, James Earl Weatherford, John Wesley Weatherford, Bobby Neal Parsons, and Vertis Lee Parsons; four brothers, Owen May Gandy, Henry Earl Gandy, Johnny Gandy, and William Edward "Bill" Gandy; two sisters, Inez and Nadine; 40 grandchildren ranging in ages from 4 to 53 years; 37 great-grandchildren; and 13 great- great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Hershel Lee Weatherford, Charles Douglas Parsons, and Johnny Ray Parsons; two daughters, Joyce May and Annie May Carlita; and two sisters, Leola and Gertrue.
