The son of Daniel & Elizabeth Wentz, he married Susanna Fickes and fathered Leah (b. 07/12/58 - married Tilmon Burket). While not found in the 1860 census, he is in the 1863-65 draft registration residing in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 11" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-three in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, February 26, 1864, mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. E, 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry (117th Pennsylvania), but died in Harrisburg from a cause as yet unknown.
On September 14, 1865, Susanna applied for a widow's pension and received it.
