Hector P. Dionne

PORTSMOUTH - Hector P. Dionne, 85, of Langdon Place, formerly of Rye, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation of Portsmouth.

He was born in Madawaska, Maine, on Sept. 9, 1917, the son of the late Paul and Alice (Ouclaire) Dionne.

He was a graduate of Madawaska High School and of the Dunwoody Institute of Baking in Minneapolis, Minn. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

A well-known restaurateur, he and his wife founded and owned and operated the former Black Lantern Restaurant in Marlborough from 1952 to 1977. He later opened Hector's Country Kitchen in Rye, which they operated until retiring in 1984.

He resided in the Keene area for many years before moving to Rye. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newington, American Legion Post #8 of Dover, the N.H. Hospitality Association and the American Restaurant Association.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie M. (Scott) Dionne of Portsmouth; two sons, Robert P. Dionne of Newmarket and David K. Dionne of Madbury; two daughters, Mary Ann Dionne of Medford, Mass., and Susan M. Blake of Acworth and Misawa, Japan; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
