James Russell Gearhart, 88, of Mahaffey Lane, Williamsport, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2009 at ManorCare North.
Born July 18, 1921 in Gearhartville, he was a son of James F. and Rachel Horton Gearhart.
He was a WWII veteran of the Army and retired from George Roller Construction in 1984. Jim, also known as Russ to his family, enjoyed reading books, walking, woodworking and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of VFW Post No. 7863, DuBoistown.
In a addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Betty (Royer) Gearhart in 2004; a daughter Barbara Ann Bliven in 1989; a granddaughter Constance L. Buzzard in 2006; and a brother Earl Gearhart in 2000.
Surviving are two grandchildren Rebecca L. Bargher (Joseph) of Newfield, N.Y., and Mark James Bliven (Deborah) of Belmont, N.Y.; seven great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren; three brothers Ivan Gearhart of Linden, Maynard Gearhart of Williamsport, and John Gearhart of Longwood, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. Burial will be held in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at Sanders.
The family would like to thank the staff of ManorCare North for their care and compassion shown to Mr. Gearhart during his stay there.
