Sybil Ellen Spain, 92, of Humble Texas peacefully entered heavens gates on May 5, 2011. Sybil was born on June 13, 1918 in Grapeland Texas to Ira William Walling and Luna Mae Dixon. She was the widow of Charles Virgil Spain. Sybil and Virgil were married for 55 years and spent most of those years in Pasadena Texas. Sybil worked for the Pasadena Independent School District for 18 years. She loved driving her school bus and interacting with the children. She was an active member of Waters Road Church of Christ for over 30 years. After widowed Sybil moved to Humble, Texas and became a member of Lake Houston Church of Christ. She truly loved the pastors, elders, and congregations at both churches.
Sybil loved spending time with family and looked forward to reunions and family gatherings. She also treasured being with her church family and friends. After church and family Sybil's other love was following the Astros and Rockets on TV or the radio. She was an avid fan of both teams and rarely missed watching or listening to the games.
Survivors are sons, Bob C. Spain and wife Christine of Humble, Texas and Joe N. Spain and wife Stephanie of Lake Charles, Louisiana; grandchildren, Susan Gaze, Steven Spain, Shirley Spain, Delette Struhs and David Spain; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Knowlden; and many beloved great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by siblings, Mae Dell Johnson, Dessa Hudson and Ray Walling; granddaughter, Sharon Spain Truitt; great grandchildren, Donnie Wayne Truitt and Amber Lynn Truitt.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 5pm to 8 pm at Grand View Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 8501 Spencer Highway Pasadena Texas. Funeral Services will be Monday, May 9, 2011 at 11 am at Grand View Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Christine Spain and Barbara Jimenez for being such faithful caregivers, and to Richard Jimenez for his tireless efforts in providing for Sybil.
