She was born at Cedarville, the daughter of the late Burke and Ora Lucrecia Snyder Butcher.
She graduated from Sand Fork High School in 1937, Glenville State College in 1941 and earned a masters of arts degree from New Mexico State University in 1966. She was a former teacher in several schools in West Virginia and New Mexico and was a member of numerous fraternal and professional organizations. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Frederick, Md.
Surviving are one sister, Mary Hazel Lilley of Duluth, Ga.; two brothers, Robert J. Butcher of Glenville and Dr. James A Butcher of Shepherdstown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Jennings Jarvis; two sisters, Mabel Butcher in infancy and Louise Butcher; and one brother, Roland Butcher.
Services were held at Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville, where Eastern Star rites were observed.
