J. Garfield Allen. TURNER CENTER – J. Garfield Allen, 67, of Turner Center, died, late Sunday evening, at the C.M.G. Hospital, Lewiston, after a short illness.
Born Feb. 3, 1883, the son of James and Lavina Beals Allen, he spent all but ten years of his life at Turner Center. He lived for 10 years in Chesterville.
A graduate of Leavitt Institute in 1900, he attended Bates College and was a carpenter by trade. In 1903, he married Lavina L. Glass, who died two years ago. For 25 years, he was superintendent of the dormitory at Leavitt Institute.
He is survived by a son, Robert O., of Turner, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a sister, Miss Bessie Allen, and an aunt, Laura B. Beals Allen, both of Turner Center and Milton, Mass.
He was past grand of Blake Lodge, IOOF; past district deputy of district No. 6, I.O.O.F; a member of Electric Rebekah Lodge, the Turner Grange and the Turner Universalist Church. He also was past-president of the Natural History Club of Turner Center.
DIED. In Lewiston, December 17, 1950. J. Garfield Allen, age (sic) 67. Funeral from the Federated Church in Turner Village, Wednesday, December 20, at 1 P.M. Internment in Turner Center Cemetery, Turner Center. Friends unable to attend the services may call at the Memorial Chapel of Dillingham & Son, Tuesday 10 A.M. to 10 P.M.
