U.S. Continental Congressman. With his parents, he grew up and was a farmer in New Lots, New York and in 1748, he operated a mill in Flatbush, New York. He was appointed Kings County Clerk by Governor Clinton in 1750, was also clerk of the board of supervisors and was a member of the Colonial Assembly, (1761-75). In 1774, he was elected a member of the First Continental Congress, serving until his death at age 51. He was originally interred in the Old Dutch Burying Ground at New Lots, New York and in 1868, he with wife’s remains were reentered at their present location in the Green-Wood Cemetery.
